Leichhardt House Student Accommodation has been founded on an Education First basis. We are here to provide not only room and board, but also the structure to support our boarders throughout their high school journey.
However, there is more to hostel life than simply education and study. We support and encourage students that wish to be involved extra-curricular activities, as well as providing recreation facilities onsite for boarders to use.
Room configurations do vary based on the boarders age/grade level generally. We do our best to assign boarders by age. Juniors (years 7-9) - Each room accommodates up to 4 boarders, the rooms are split into 2 sections and each section has 2 beds.
Senior Girls (years 10-12) - Each room accommodates up to 2 boarders, the rooms are split into 2 sections and each section has 1 bed.
Senior Boys (years 10-12) - These are private rooms with limited availability.
Breakfast includes cereal, toast and fruit, and is put out from 7am to 7:45am, Tuesday to Friday.
A packed lunch is available to all boarders who want it.
This includes a sandwich, fruit and varying snack items.
After school we have a various selection of items on offer for afternoon tea.
Dinner is usually around 6:30pm and we aim to provide a balanced meal that includes dessert.
The house routine and time schedule is key to ensuring the smooth running of the hostel.
Included in the schedule is a set study time. Boarders will be able to participate in external activities such as sport, music and dance etc. They can also have a part time job and get allocated times to go downtown for shopping.
A copy of the standard house schedule is in the Boarding Handbook, appendix 2 on page 24.
Many of our boarders enjoy sport, music and dance to name a few extra
curricular activities.
We make every effort to accommodate boarder interests in our scheduling to ensure a full and enjoyable experience.
We have a mini-bus that is used to transport students to before and after school activities. It is also used to take students to and from Chinchilla State High School when required (ie wet weather etc), and to the Chinchilla Christian College.
Boarders are welcome to bring their mobile phones, tablets, laptops
and handheld gaming devices with
them to the Hostel.
We have procedures in place for usage. All devices are handed in during study time, and also at bed time.
