Leichhardt House Student Accommodation has been founded on an Education First basis meaning that at our core we're here to provide not only room and board but also the structure to support our boarders throughout their high school journey.
However there is more to hostel life than simply study and education, we encourage a range of activities and have onsite facilities to for all boarders to use.
If you have any other questions, please contact us.
Room configurations do vary based on the boarders age/grade level generally. We do our best to assign boarders by age.
Juniors (years 7-9): each room accommodates up to 4 boarders, the rooms are split into 2 sections, each section has 2 beds.
Senior Girls (years 10-12): each room accommodates up to 2 boarders, the rooms are split into 2 sections, each section has 1 bed.
Senior Boys (years 10-12): these are private rooms with very limited availability.
We cannot guarantee what room a boarder will be in until early in the new year.
Breakfast includes cereal, toast and fruit, it is available Tuesday to Friday from 7am to 7:45am.
A packed lunch is available to all boarders who want it, this includes the sandwich of the day, varying snack items (i.e. chips, le snack, muesli bars, crackers, meat sticks, pretzels, dried fruit and nut mixes, cookies, etc) and fruit.
After school until around 4pm we offer afternoon tea that is comprised of either party size mince pies or party size sausage rolls, a sweet item such as cake and fruit.
Dinner is at 6:30pm Monday to Thursday, we aim to provide a balanced meal that includes dessert. Thursday is our "cheat day" so to speak that includes items such as burgers, nachos, hot dogs and ice cream for dessert.
The house schedule is key to ensuring the smooth running of Leichhardt House.
Included in the schedule is time for boarders to go downtown, participate in extra-curricular activities (i.e. sport, music, dance, etc), part time work, along with the regular bits and pieces such as study time and dinner time.
A copy of the standard house schedule is in the Boarding Handbook, appendix 2 on page 24.
Many of our boarders enjoy sport, music and dance to name a few extra curricular activities.
We make every effort to accommodate boarder interests in our scheduling to ensure a full and enjoyable experience.
Transportation is available to boarders that require it to get to and from school, to and from extra-curricular activities and appointments.
This service is only available within Chinchilla and at times laid out in the house schedule.
Boarders are welcome to bring their mobile phones, tablets, laptops and handheld gaming devices with them to the Hostel, there are some strict rules around their use including when they are to be handed in at night, charging and at study time.
